SLEEP APNEA.
What is it?
At the most basic level, Sleep Apnea is when you stop breathing normally while you sleep. This can be caused by a blocked airway called Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) or because of Central Sleep Apnea (CSA) when your brain is not providing necessary signals for your lungs to continue breathing regularly.
Sleep is a vital component to overall health. Undiagnosed and untreated Sleep Apnea of any type can lead to or worsen other serious health complications including: stroke, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, memory loss, and depression.
WHAT IS THE CURE?
Sleep Apnea cannot be cured; however, there are options for treating Sleep Apnea that bring nightly relief to those diagnosed.
The first step towards treatment is to consult with your Primary Care or other healthcare provider to have them order a sleep test.
